Oh, i totally forgot to update on Ramadhan. As you all know, the holy month of Ramadhan has started yesterday. I'd like to wish Happy Ramadhan and Happy Fasting to all the Muslims all over the world!
Anyway, quite a number of people had been asking me the same few questions; "what is ramadhan?" , "why do muslims fast?". Now let me answer some of your doubts.
What is Ramadan?
Ramadan is the ninth of the Islamic Calendar. Ramadan is the holiest of months in the Islamic calendar. Muslims believe that the gates of Heaven are open and the gates of Hell are locked for the duration of Ramadan. The month is spent by Muslims fasting during the daylight hours from dawn to sunset. Why do Muslims fast?
The purpose of fasting is to teach Muslims about patience, spirituality, humility and submissiveness to God. It is also said to redirect the heart away from worldly activities; its purpose being to cleanse the inner soul and free it from harm. It also teaches Muslims to practice self-discipline, self-control, sacrifice, and empathy for those who are less fortunate; thus encouraging actions of generosity and charity. Is Fasting compulsory?
It becomes compulsory for Muslims to start fasting when they reach puberty, so long as they are healthy, sane and have no disabilities or illnesses. For more information, do click on this link:
