Oh wow. It's been such a long time since i last updated my blog! The last time i updated was like 2 months ago which i updated on my 1st month of internship. Look at the date now. It's 28th July. My internship has officially ended 8 days ago and i am now busy with the internship report which is due tomorrow but here i am updating my blog simply because i can't seem to translate my thoughts into words therefore here i am updating my blog hoping to be able to translate my thoughts into words here. Wow, that was a really long sentence! haha..
Anyway, what have i been up to or what's happening to my life now? So, like i've mentioned, my internship had ended and yes i do feel sad that it has ended but i am happy because the company has offered me a temporary job until end of September. So YAY ME! I get to go back to the company and hang out with those marketing guys again. Okay, i'm sure you have this question in your head, "What marketing guys and who are they?" Well, in simple definition, they are guys from the marketing department. They are really kind, funny, cool, cute and AWESOME colleagues! :)
Let's put that topic aside and i shall continue with my internship experience. I am glad that i am this fortunate to be able to go through the internship as provided by the school. In the past years, the students wasn't that lucky and fortunate enough because there wasn't a thing called, 'internship'. In the past, the school doesn't offer internship. The students have to ask for the internship. (well, that's what my cousin said. she had to ask the school to send her out for internship where she intern for Substation).
The whole internship was an eye opener for me and it has changed me in so many ways. Most importantly, i am a much more confident person now as compared to the very first day i entered the office. I was a really shy, low self-esteem girl who doesn't have the courage to speak her mind out but i am different now especially in working life where people can be really mean / sarcastic towards you and there is a need for you to stand up for yourself. Based on my experience, no matter how small a company is, office politics does exist and it can happen anytime. I've gained so much from this internship. My supervisor had been supportive in my learning. She'll share tips, pointers, her knowledge, skills and experience with us whenever she can and it really helps in the learning process. She even believed in me and she trusted me.
Knowing that i feel uncomfortable talking on the phone with strangers, she still assigned me in handling logistics tasks where i had to deal with the calling of suppliers, making enquiries, getting price quotations and placing order / rental. Her purpose was to actually make me overcome my barrier and yes, thanks to her, i finally overcome it. It feels great to be able to apply the skills and knowledge that i've picked up in school. From the internship itself, i managed to mark / label the props table all by myself, i managed to take down blockings and notes for a dance production, i managed to learn new ways to spike a stage, i am now aware of the difference in spiking a stage for dance productions as compared to other types of productions. There's just too many things that i've learnt from this internship.
Besides being involved in the production department, i was also given the opportunity to work with the marketing department. It was such a pleasant experience to be able work with them and able to handle the tasks given by them no matter how simple or tough the tasks may be because it's all about the experience and learning. Internship is all about learning and gaining experience. I was given the opportunity to help them out in sourcing for sponsors, i helped them out in stock taking, archival of programme booklets / collaterals and i was also involved in FOH. I was involved in Front-of-House for Ballet Under The Stars. I swear it was my very first time doing FOH. It was such a great experience. We were tasked to sell merchandise at 1 of the entrance.
To sum up my internship experience, from the bottom of my heart, i would like to thank each and every individual who made my internship a fruitful one. I had such a great time at work with great company which made my learning smooth. I can honestly say that i've improved so much on my communication skills, leadership skills and interpersonal skills.
